BrainX has developed an online Pre-Assessment Service PAS®, which identifies a student’s knowledge gaps for the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Evaluating students before they take the exit exam allows teachers to identify learning gaps and fill them, so students will pass the CAHSEE on their first try. The PAS® allows administrators to determine which state standards students are struggling with most, and to develop a plan to address those standards.
Academic Vocabulary is the most overlooked factor affecting a student’s ability to pass the CAHSEE. Because standardized tests don’t adequately test Academic Vocabulary, students and teachers have no way of knowing the depth of this problem. The BrainX Pre Assessment Service (PAS) now includes an Academic vocabulary section that assesses students against the 200 words most commonly used on the CAHSEE, SAT and other High Stakes Exams. This allows teachers and administrators to understand each student’s Academic vocabulary knowledge and proactively support students who need help.

Schools can identify and intervene, via the on-line reporting tools, instantly after a student completes the CAHSEE PAS®. Schools can either use the PAS® as a standalone assessment system to identify students in need of intensive instruction or purchase it with the BrainX CAHSEE Tutorials, saving money while ensuring an immediate intervention plan.

Remediation is much more effective if it occurs prior to defeat. Students that receive early CAHSEE pre-assessments are easier to remediate, and have a higher first time pass rate than those who don’t. The PAS® includes a detailed gap analysis that helps schools determine who needs help and what type of help is needed, so that students will pass on their first try.

By using the PAS®, teachers can identify each student’s learning gaps and refine curriculum plans to stimulate overall classroom improvement. The BrainX CAHSEE PAS® aligns all of its questions and reports with California State Standards, so teachers can tailor material to meet individual student needs. This proactive analysis is especially effective for Special Education and English Learner intervention.

The PAS Digital Proctor® is configured to meet each school’s testing needs. Because it’s online, only an internet connection is needed so PAS® sessions can be done on school or home computers. Distance learning and independent study programs are also easily accommodated.
