System hangs at 100% or an error appears when opening a KnowledgeBase
There several possible issues causing the error message:
If you have upgraded Windows to XP: You may also notice problems with other applications and hardware (printer, CD-ROM drive, mouse, etc.). Generally, you can correct these glitches caused by the Windows upgrade by running Windows Update several times. After choosing "Custom Install," make sure to select ALL updates: high-priority, Windows XP family, and hardware from the left-hand menu.
If you installed the DLS in Windows XP and you were not the only user logged in or you were not the Administrator: Before installing any software, you should make sure that no one else is logged into Windows XP and that your login gives you Administrator access. Also, no other programs should be open when installing software.
If you installed and other programs were open, other users were logged into Windows XP, or you were not the Administrator: You may need to "uninstall" the Digital Learning System and reinstall it. You can uninstall from your Windows Control Panel by selecting Add/Remove Programs. Make sure to follow the installation instructions located on your CD-Rom.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You should update your Windows operating system by running the Windows Update feature.
May be missing an ODBC driver: In the Personal Learning Assistant: you cannot access a KnowledgeBase. The hourglass hangs, the program times out and you have to End Task. In the Knowledge Manager: When you try to open an existing KnowledgeBase, you get this error: "An error occurred attempting to open the KnowledgeBase." In the Knowledge Manager: When you try to create a KnowledgeBase, you get this error: "-2147467259 (80004005) Microsoft ODBC Driver Manager Driver SQLSET connect failed."
To correct the problem, follow these steps:
Download the following file and save it to your local computer hard disk (C: drive or desktop).
Download dataacc.zip
Unzip the downloaded archive and run the application. When the program window is displayed, click on the 'Yes' button, then click 'Continue', then click 'OK'.
Next, click the large button to the left of the text Complete\Custom Install. Put a check mark next to Data Access Drivers (first item on the list) and then click Continue.
In a few moments, you will get a dialog saying that the setup completed successfully. Click the OK button to exit and finally launch DLS.
